MUNICIPAL TOURISM SELF ASSESSMENT TOOL

Although tourism is seen as an important sector, the National Tourism Sector Strategy (NTSS) presents as a challenge, the lack of tourism planning and budgeting across departments and spheres of government.  It (NTSS) also emphasised the importance of Local Government as a sphere that is at the cutting edge of implementation of tourism activities for realising tourism’s contribution to the economy.

It is in light of the above that the National Department of Tourism (NDT) identified a need to develop a Municipal Tourism Self-Assessment Tool.  The tool seeks to assist municipalities to evaluate themselves on the performance of tourism in their areas, whether they have all the resources needed to develop or grow tourism in their areas.
