TOURISM TRANSPORT INTEGRATION



Integration of the demand side of transport is an enabler of travel and tourism as transportation has been and continue to be an integral part of the tourism industry. Transportation links tourism with access to various tourists' attractions and destinations. The National Tourism Sector Strategy (NTSS) was approved and aligned to the National Development Plan (NDP, 2012) and Tourism Act No. 3 of 2014. The NTSS emphasizes on the importance to align tourism to the national transportation priorities.

The National Tourism Sector Strategy specifically refers to Pillar 2 of "Facilitating Ease of Access to improve access to key tourism product offerings. The objectives relevant to transport is to address the objectives to improve airlift access particularly for priority markets to removing barriers that limit the ability of potential international tourists to travel to South Africa. It is also to facilitate increased travel through the application of a tourist friendly visa regime and automated passenger movement and monitoring systems. Also, this function also refers to Pillar 3: Visitor Experience and the objective to facilitate tourist travel through improved private and public transport for tourists.

We, as the National Department of Tourism, hereby provides the tourism industry a quick overview and application links to apply for tourism road signage and tour operators' licencing.
